"KNOCK YOURSELF OUT CHUCKIE BABY !!!"
They don't make television like this anymore. Maybe thats a good thing. In 1976 - 1979 -- THIS WAS IT. Game show host, Chuck Barris, led a total sham on network television called, "The Gong Show". The early years were great. The acts were goofy and there was this great void of seriousness.
Gene Gene was always brought back on the show right before they would cut to commercial.
The later years had a lot of people doing soul songs. Then this thing turned into an elevated talent show. It lost its goofy edge. And in that I think it lost its innocence.
Later after the Gong Show had long faded into memory Barris came back with a shocking revelation. He claimed he worked as an international hit man for the CIA. His book and film, "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind" is just as weird as the show. It was strange for another reason because his claims just didn't seem plausible.
