CAPTAIN SENSIBLE - HERE IS THE GOOD POP - HAPPY TALK
"HAPPY TALK ---- One of The Great Unknown POP Songs You Never Heard"
This is one of the greatest songs that existed in its time period. It came out one Captains solo efforts when he wasn't acting like a revved up maniac with THE DAMNED. This album allowed Sensible to do some pretty off the cuff things you may not expect from the UK's First PUNK band. This is a great effort.
Around this time it was rumored that Sensible was paying for Robyn Hitchcock to write songs and to create music. Hitch's band THE SOFT BOYS had recently broken up and now he was solo. Sensible heard his music and thought it was important enough to support. I have only heard this rumor by club kids growing up in this time period but was never able to validate this curious fact.
This song HAPPY TALK was featured in a few comedies of late. Its whimsical like Sensible himself. The other notable songs on this effort include YANKS WITH GUNS. If you can locate this on disc its worth owning. Unfortunately ITUNES does not carry it.

THE DAMNED - VOICE OF GENIUS
I JUST CAN'T BE HAPPY TODAY....
SMASH IT UP.......
On Live Television.... if thats not a reason to celebraet I don't know what is.... This sound quality is terrible as it is very thin and tinny but if you can get past that and just enjoy this clip for what it is you will like it.
This is out of control entertainment and .... its from 1979. Which means that its GREAT. Its fresh from the gritty streets of apocolpytic youth culture. I like how Dave Vanian has an intro book on how to play the keyboards. Very snotty and hilarious. I've never seen someone smash up a cymbol with a snare drum.. haha... Glorious.

The Damned - "You Can't Afford A Cannon !!!"
For the true fans I realize I am getting the lyrics wrong. No worries, apologies are not in order. Getting rock lyrics wrong is a big part of being a fan in all sense. Don't forget it was Ozzy Osbourne who once said, "Excuse Me, While I Kiss This Guy", (his own interpretation to Jimi Hendrix, "Purple Haze").
Where was I? Oh Yes... THE DAMNED.
This is a brilliant band... some would say almost rabid, (for those who remember them in 1977) then some would call them psychedelic, (the early 80's) and others would just call them odd. They had a line up of about 20 people throughout the years coming and going as the band reformed and broke up only to reform again.
Dave Vanian, the lead singer, is quite scary at times as the vampire image. Captain Sensible is flat out insane and the music is surprisingly very good. There was a brief time that this band was creating its own genre within the punk circuit. They became increasingly hard to classify with each new release.
They toured with the Sex Pistols and Clash for the ill fated Anarchy in the UK Tour in 1977 where half the gigs got cancelled. Johnny Thunders played for the opening act. Then this band went back into obscurity......
They are extremely eclectic. And even in this day and age..... with all the drivel being pumped out by the corporate record execs..... extremely necessary.
