CAPTAIN SENSIBLE - HERE IS THE GOOD POP - HAPPY TALK
"HAPPY TALK ---- One of The Great Unknown POP Songs You Never Heard"
This is one of the greatest songs that existed in its time period. It came out one Captains solo efforts when he wasn't acting like a revved up maniac with THE DAMNED. This album allowed Sensible to do some pretty off the cuff things you may not expect from the UK's First PUNK band. This is a great effort.
Around this time it was rumored that Sensible was paying for Robyn Hitchcock to write songs and to create music. Hitch's band THE SOFT BOYS had recently broken up and now he was solo. Sensible heard his music and thought it was important enough to support. I have only heard this rumor by club kids growing up in this time period but was never able to validate this curious fact.
This song HAPPY TALK was featured in a few comedies of late. Its whimsical like Sensible himself. The other notable songs on this effort include YANKS WITH GUNS. If you can locate this on disc its worth owning. Unfortunately ITUNES does not carry it.

1977 -- Promo Video. Written by Brian James. New Rose was the first single by 'The Damned.' It was released on October 22, 1976. It is considered the first punk record by many, insofar as the first song of a musical genre can be identified.
This video is great. They looked great. Nobody told these guys what to do or what to look like. Singer Dave Vanian used to dig graves for a living. When it came time to switch over from grave digger to lead singer he took on a vampire look and it was unexpected but great. This was a total switch from the whole KISS look. This black on white makeup became his signature look for years to come as the band under went multiple phases of change.
This band never needed permission to do anything.

THE DAMNED - NASTY - THE YOUNG ONES APPEARANCE
"CATCH CATCH..... THE HORROR TAXI -- FREEZE FRAME
GONNA DRIVE YOU INSANE!"
This is a clip from THE YOUNG ONES - one of the most innovated BBC comedy shows of all time. The other innovative comedy shows come from the same comedy troupe that produced this one. The COMIC STRIP and of course FULL BOTTOM is absolutely brilliant. Anything with Adrian Edmonson and Nigel Planner is worth watching. These episodes came out in 1983 and I am still watching them. They are still entertaining.
This series was also responsible for breaking up a few marriages. No doubt - the guys love this stuff. Especially if you grew up during this amazing time in music. THE DAMNED popped up on this episode called.... NASTY... The plot involved the boys in the house renting a sex tape and a VCR. The night is interrupted by a parcel which contains a wise cracking vampire from Johanesburg, South Africa and of course the musical act, THE DAMNED, which automatically appears in the kitchen unannounced.
Lots of bad one liners and great upbeat camera angles makes this clip a winner.

WHOS DAMNED?
Robert Tilton.. the farting Preacher..... THE DAMNED.. the rock band of the age, PUBLIC IMAGE LTD with John Lydon.. aka Johnny Rotten.... its all fodder for the asking really.
I found a bunch of clips and sort of mashed them all up around eachother and let them all go. Its entertaining and interesting. Not one of them is really better than the other. They are all sort of intriguing in their own way.

THE DAMNED - VOICE OF GENIUS
I JUST CAN'T BE HAPPY TODAY....
SMASH IT UP.......
On Live Television.... if thats not a reason to celebraet I don't know what is.... This sound quality is terrible as it is very thin and tinny but if you can get past that and just enjoy this clip for what it is you will like it.
This is out of control entertainment and .... its from 1979. Which means that its GREAT. Its fresh from the gritty streets of apocolpytic youth culture. I like how Dave Vanian has an intro book on how to play the keyboards. Very snotty and hilarious. I've never seen someone smash up a cymbol with a snare drum.. haha... Glorious.

THE DAMNED - JUST FOR YOU - ITS A LOVE SONG !!!
HERE IS ANOTHER CLIP FROM, "TOP OF THE POPS"
This is completely muffled and the quality is poor. But if you ever heard it rip from, "Machine Gun Ettiquette" you will know that this song is stylistically out of control. The volume is out there and there is a strong melody hidden under the thrashing drums of Rat Scabbies.
I saw these guys on their 10th anniversary in New York City at the Ritz -- the world's first rock and roll hotel -- in the late 80's and they were very powerful..... They played the entire first album in about 20 blazing minutes!
Then ten years later I caught them again in Chicago. This time the show was more controlled and the sound was very polished. They were even more powerful than they were the first time. I caught this show at Chicago's House of Blues.
The Damned fell under the shadow of the Clash even though they briefly toured together. They were obscure. But they were no less charming in their own fiendish way. They were just as brilliant.
1977 was a year that celebrated punk music. But just as it was released it was forgotten about as it was squashed by Disco's overbearing presence. 1980 was also a very confusing time as this music edged its sound into commercial releases. In America, the New Wave sound was about as close to punk as the record industry would get. With the invention of MTV punk would reach a broader audience. By 1983 the presence of punk and hardcore was available in just about everywhere imaginable. But in England... the sound had reverted to something else.. Ska, Dub, Goth and danceable pop.
The Damned then went into more changes trading as many as 20+ members in its roster. Each release was more creative and unique but hard to classify. Their sound matured and was very textural. But the classic punk sound that made them famous was forever frozen in this classic 1976 release.. DAMNED DAMNED DAMNED.
