"MR TESTOSTERONE -- AMERICAS FIRST HEALTHY PUNK ROCKER, GETES HIT FACE ON WITH A FR*ICKEN BEER CAN -- TO THE HEAD !!!"
First of all let me tell you why this is a good video. Its not.
Thats the first lesson learned here. This "music" is really hard to figure out.
When I first got into Black Flag I actually hated these guys. I had to listen to
the tapes over and over again to try to pick out a melody.
If you can get past the dismal muddy sound of this video then you can rejoice in the "comedy" of this piece. Singer Henry ROllins gets hit in the head with a beer can. Although it wasn't as terrible as the one Sid Vicious got, ( he got a full beer can thrown at him that cut his lip apart and splattered blood all over the place in 1978). Henry did get hit hard through because he kind of stumbles forward and grabs his head. He comes out cussing and swearing at the audience brandishing a mic stand.
I get a kick out of watching Henry lose his shit for a number of reasons. Rollins is like a time bomb ready to explode and I never understood how punk could stand up for this health conscious, muscle cut, "punk rocker"... its a very strange combination. I would have enjoyed watching Susan Powter get pelted with a full bottle of Hydroxycut too... that would have been pretty entertaining. Anytime a preacher gets hit in the head while in the pulpit is maximum entertainment. End of story......
Rollins was hard to decipher. I still don't own all the Black Flag catalog. Even though I was a fan I didn't have the interest to invest in the full line up. These shows were VERY HARD to sit through becuase they were incredibly depressing while being ear deafening. I managed to see them one time in 1986 -- one of their last shows in Ann Arbor. There were about three or four songs that i actually liked because there was a melody attached to them. Although far from, "likeable" these songs ushered on a new sound......
It broke the ground for a lot of bands to come and make punk and new music a brand new thing... for all to enjoy.
