This is an amazing clip because this kid is incredibly foul mouthed. He is hypnotic in his verbal delivery. Someone has mentored this kid in the fine arts of bullying and intimidation. If this is a real clip then it reflects this kids environment. In short, its a social workers dream come true.

Just in the news a few a weeks ago some stoners were on CNN caught on tape sneaking a joint to a todler. Then there was something about putting beer in a baby bottle and feeding it to a two year old in our local papers.

Maybe this is just a hoax and no cause for real alarm. But maybe it goes a little deeper than this. Maybe, this is what is happening to our youth. I remember reading about Capone when he was a kid and how he used to mouth off to Navy officials in Brooklyn. Of course they could never give him a proper beating because he would taunt them from behind a very tall fence. This later led to bolder bragging rights. Some of those greater offenses included murder.

It is interesting to see just exactly how this sort of thing starts.

But perhaps a better observation is.... "What are you going to do about it?"

Why don't they make commercials like this anymore? The new commercials that center around McD's really are not very good. They are rap influenced and hip hop flavored nonsense about how hot the people are eating this... food.

I like the goofy musical versions better. This theme song is familiar they used to run a jingle of it before all the Bob Hope holiday specials in the 1970's. There was a great mood that generally surrounded television advertising back then. It was entertaining.

Nobody is walking around with this suppresed violent tone about them. There are no rap or heavy street themed people in this clip. It comes off looking like the I Love Lucy Show.... And thats good. This shows America as a happy, non-depressing place. That may have not been the case in the grand scheme of things, (Manson went on his killing spree in 1969) but yet the media front painted a glorious picture of happy times.

Speaking of Good Times.. check out the black guy dancing around with the hot mop -- thats John Amos who playsed the dad on Good Times.

THis is a very creepy commercial. When they find actor Willard Scott dressed up as Ronald they find him in the dark watching himself on television... go figure !! Then he tells us that a perfect meal consists of hamburgers and potatos fried in oil and milk shakes.. (pffffft).

The part when they find him in the dark is kind of eerie. His costume is peculiar. I am not sure if that works but it is interesting. He is wearing the food.

This was the very first rendition of Mc Donald on television.

This is beyond cruel and its very depressing but yes... entertaining. The overall effect for this is one of absolute horror and there is no excuse for it. This is self explanatory.

If the food won't kill ya the... guy on the left will do his best to remedy that situation.

STYX - MR ROBOTO - EVERY REDNECK NEEDS A FRIEND

This is a strange video to watch. Even after ... 2o odd years or more.... The thing was... nobody asked for it. The music... market... never really asked for it either. We were all lost in an age of flying V guitars and campy hairdoos and endless solos. It was the age of bullshit.

We had these rock stores in the east coast that glorified, "rock and roll" to the point of parody. There were more licensed rock and roll products than there were rock and roll albums! In the early 80's there was a lot of schlocky posters, buttons and must have collectibles. Getting a girl to wear your .... Iron Maiden Eddie keychain or this or that meant SERIOUS BUSINESS.....

Thats why this sort of thing with Styx didn't raise a whole lot of eyebrows. It was supposed to be considered a monumental leap in their career. Circus Magazine made a big deal out of the robot song by Styx. It was talked about in hush hush fashion in my high school. When I moved down south to Virginia it was heralded as the great messiah of rock and roll.....

The yokels loved this stuff.

Behind the scenes it was a different story. Styx took this thing on the road and almost got lynched when the crowd got restless during a rock festival. The drummer in this band drank himself to death shortly after. The whole thing was just weird.

But everyone came out with a robot song after this. There are lesser known songs and quite frankly even though I never wrote any of them I did buy them inadvertantly on other albums. I chortled to Cheap Tricks, "I Want Be Man" which was pretty hysterical. There was some other ones too that popped up on some of my other LPS. I think Cheap Trick actually wrote two robot type songs on the album, "One on One". There was another band who tried this too but the results were so forgettable or.. maybe I just successfully forgot all about them.... which is good too.

This song was part of an opera and an elaborate stage show. It spawned a live album. Some of the tracks on that album are pretty hilarious. Some of them are kinda interesting. But there are only a couple. If they were all by themselves they would be OKAY. But wrapped around this silly robot motif i have no idea what this whole thing was trying to accomplish. I know the story..... Dr. Righteous Rock and Roll... and the Robot take over and Kilroy is an escapee.. and Rockin the Paradise, etc. But STILL... man, this is pretty silly.

I was glad when Echo and the Bunnymen showed up when they did. Weren't you?

DEVO - I CANT GET NO SATISFACTION

"STABBING THE TOASTER OF LOVE"

This is great, this is violent, this is pop, this is even recorded on scratchy film. Its far from polished and its got great energy and it speaks about its time. It wasn't shot on a multi million dollar budget and it shows. THATS GOOD ENOUGH... and its relevant.

The baby who stabs the toaster is in for a real treat. We shriek in mock terror but this is what good video is all about. It gets your attention. That baby grows up into a very disturbed young man who does these strange forward flips. It is enough to carry us through the entire video experience of this STONES song.

I prefer this song to the Stones in a lot of ways because it is so straight forward. Notice how these new Yellow Devo suits became their signature garb. This was even parodied in Revenge of the Nerds. Besides being somewhat geeky Devo was actually an angry band in a lot of ways. They had a lot of energy to them.

When they came out in the rock tabloids Devo garnered some bad reviews. One actually said if you don't care about the girl you are with go ahead and put a Devo record on. The reason being that a Devo record never meant anything to anyone. That little snippet of wisdom I find hilarious and at the same time nonsensical. It DID have some meaning to me. I found them interesting. Although I did find playing an entire album by them a little tedious because some of the songs were nerve grating, (Through Being Cool etc.).

But this one is a gem.

DEVO - ITS A BEAUTIFUL WORLD

This actually aired on the Pee Wee Herman Show when it was originally broadcast at 1 am in the early 80's. You may remember that one where it was a stage show etc. He actually aired this Devo clip but I am not sure it had the Booji boy intro in the beginning controlling the actual video. But it works... again.. its been a long time since I seen this... maybe 1982.

I am going to get stoned for saying this but I think Mark Mothersbaugh is TEN TIMES HOTTER than Jessica Alba.. and the reasons why should be obvious. Yes he is an ultra geek but this guy had a lot of vision. You really couldn't take your eyes off anything he created because he was just flat out strange and captivating. I get sick of alba in about ten minutes. But I can sit there and watch a Devo video over and over again because it is ENTERTAINING.

There really hasn't been another band like Devo which is kind of too bad. They were creating great material in the early 80's. By the Mid-80's other bands were grabbing the spotlight and synth pop was dominating American radio. Then things got really bad.

You suddenly had a lot of bands creating cerebral kamakazi with the ear drums and patience such as Mister Mister, KajaGooGoo, Cutting Crew, Aha, Terrance Trent Darby and many others. It wasn't until bands who danced around on the outter edges of IRS records got kids thinking about what music could be and what was possible. That is when things got interesting again.

But before the great rennaisance this is what we had to work with and it was substantial. It held up and some songs held up better than others. Devo doing Jocko Homo was beyond brilliant. The introduction of Booji boy was amazing too. See it all come together in this social commentary video is just what the Booji Boy ordered. Its king.

Like many other comedians of the time (including the cast of The Goon Show), Manning had had little thought of entertainment as a career, until his national service posted him to Germany. To pass the time, Manning began to sing popular standards to entertain his fellow soldiers. He proved to be so good at this that eventually he ended up putting on shows at the weekends: when he began to charge admittance (and audiences didn't drop off), he realised that there was the possibility of making money from showbusiness.

This video is hilarious. The response from this sensitive material... THE SMITHS is going to get quite a response. Partly because it has so many deep rooted feelings in so many people. Simply said, this material is seriously tied to some strong emotional bonds that ... hopefully in many cases have been since abandoned or forgotten about altogether. Now, you will most likely be tied to this music for the music and not for the insecurities that may have existed when you were younger.

AHOUSE - CALL ME BLUE

"not a high traffic level band -- BUT A DAMN GOOD ONE !!!"

What happens to originality when you need it most? The best part about being a band in this period is that you had real tenacity. There was very little pressure from record companies to create standard schlock. And the big reason for that was that nobody really know what these bands were really trying to communicate. There really was a magical time in music because of the lack of big label pressure to be categorized.

Seeing a video for this group AHOUSE is extremely rare. Finding this particular release requires another phenomenal feat. You can find some of these tracks on compilations but the complete releases are hard to come by.
