COMING TO A CHURCH NEAR YOU.... HOPEFULLY

Corkey from "Life Goes On".... America's favorite misfit is a living live dynamo and releasing very strange rock and roll albums for morons of all ages.

What the hell.

When this came out it was released in the HARD ROCK section in an Ann Arbor record store. Obviously a joke... right? This was a kids album.... wasn't it? What age range was this supposed to be for? Its a mystery...... its hysterical.. its MYSTERICAL.

TONI BASIL - Not Bad - (For Someone Named After an Herb)

Her recording career began in 1966 with a rare one-off single for A&M Records, the title song from the film Breakaway. Although she appeared three times as musical guest during the first season of Saturday Night Live in 197576, it wasn't until 1982 that she released a follow-up, the international smash "Mickey". This song is, in fact, a cover of "Kitty", a 1979 release by UK band Racey, written by British hitmakers Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman. "Mickey" itself would be covered in a parody by "Weird Al" Yankovic as "Ricky" (a homage to Lucy and Ricky Ricardo from I Love Lucy). Furthermore, "Mickey" was actually recorded in 1979, and when her record label wanted to release the song in 1982, Basil was reluctant, believing the song already sounded "dated". But the label persevered, and pop-music history was made.

She choreographed David Bowie's Glass Spider Tour.... she was in movies too and on Laverne and Shirley. She even played a hooker in the film, "Easy Rider". Weird.

But this video made no sense to me as a high school hooligan. I knew it had something to do with cheerleaders. My school was in Bridgeport, CT and we had no cheerleaders. We had no football field and if we did we would have to dodge gun shots no doubt. So this typical look at, teenage life (?) was totally lost on me. Seriously.

FAT ALBERT - TIME WARP

This is great television.

"Fat Albert" was a great cartoon in the 1970's and delivered a lot of great morals. This cartoon holds up for a very simple reason. They weren't trying to hawk a toy or a cereal like in the cartoons of the 90's and 200o's. It was there to entertain the kids.

This is a "lost concept" in modern day America.

These characters were based off of Bill Cosbys stand up material and his memories of growing up as a youth. Cartoons now that soley entertain are crammed with rapid fire one liners and dumb expressions, (Family Guy, Simpsons.. etc.) .... and constant referrances to "Home Alone" .... where every character lets out an exhaustive, "AAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" every five minutes. I fault Disney for embrasing this stupid device and just about anything Pixar puts out.

The pacing of this cartoon is nice too. There is a natural flow to it. This series later crapped out in the early 80's with the inclusion of, "The Brown Hornet", (a super hero that flies around in a spaceship shaped like a brown hornet of all things....).

RAGING RUDOLF - KEEP YER MOUTH SHUT

This is great television -- damn near perfect. Its MAD TV... and even for that show - its damn near perfect. I remember when this first came out and believe it or not its at least 10 years old.

This is riddled with a ton of Scorsese references cause according to this clip -- he supposedly directed it....RIIIIIIIIIIGHT?

RAGING BULL - (MAN !!) 1980

Check it out... this is scary. This poster is truly terrifying. Its like a high school art project gone awry.

Whats up with the racoon eyeballs on Deniro.... this is truly one of the worst posters I've ever seen. You see stuff like this when films are released in Mexico or Tangiers -- or even Trinidad.

This opening clip to Raging Bull s classic. Its the whole movie in about three minutes time. This scene makes women bored and makes men cry... can you believe it? ITS INTENSE....

Whats funny about it is that this movie is incredibly depressing. Its urban and its a true story. Deniro plays an oafish boxer who beats the hell out of everything in his way - including his own family. This is really intense to watch in an IMAX theater. Especially if its on Easter Weekend in Chicago right after you dump one of your girlfriends. Seeing Deniro and Pesci 6 stories tall clobbering the mortal crap out of eachother makes for some very interesting entertainment.
