THE CLASH - SAFE EUROPEAN HOME

'FOOTAGE FROM THE US FESTIVAL IN 1983"

THIS was the most IMPORTANT BAND OF THE DAY !!! This event was hyped up to be the MOST IMPORTANT AMERICAN GIG OF ALL TIME. But its easy to fall under that type of spell. At the time I fell for it. Looking back it was still pretty good. I mean, Van Halen actually parachuted down to land on the stage and kicked off a set.

Kids hitched across the country and some took the bus just to get there. i really felt at the time that I was missing out on some monumental event. And I was.

I mean.. look at these guys.... its still incredible And I like the intro.

THE CLASH - RUDE BOY - UNRELEASED SONGS

THE CLASH - RUDE BOY

Taken from the only Clash film. This was actually hard to find for a long period of time. It has occasionally resurfaced...... It was a psuedo documentary about a kid who works in a XXX theater and gets a gig working as a roadie with the CLASH.

You had to go out of your way to find a video store that carried it. This was a very small and relatively unknown release. It was pursued only by the MOST DIE HARD FANS.

Now, you can get this on DVD.

CHICKEN DANCE UBER ALLES

"WHAT IF HITLER HAD WON THE WAR?"

Is this what the Third Reich had in mind after they achieved WORLD DOMINATION? Good God man... !!! What a horrendous and silly minded thought.

Still, after seeing how they abused their power and created so much irreversable destruction. I firmly believe that this could have happened. Imagine walking into a third world disco or a dancing hall and this was all they offered musically speaking.

After seeing the art that came from that period. I wouldn't doubt if this was THE GRAND VISION...... I say that .... with utmost confidence.

LAWRENCE WELK MEETS SISTER RAY !!

"This is not what you think.... its a soundtrack tacked on over the Lawrence Welk Show"

This does look real however. Oddly enough the lyrics for Sister Ray were mumbled on the phone as Edie Sedgwick took her last breath.

This is pretty interesting television and for a second it fooled me. To the best of my knowledge I don't think Lawrence ever created any type of pop music on his show like this. The closest he came was doing a few Beatle tunes.

"WHO THE HELL IS LOU REED !!!???"

"Can You Believe This Type of Response?"

This is the question poised to me from my aunt who grew up in the ... 60's of all things. I was born in the 60's but I never knew who Lou was until much later. As a kid all I knew was Playschool and Top Cat.

Warhol and the Velvets would enter my life much later.

LOU REED AND THE VELVET UNDERGROUND was where it was at as far as I was concerned. It defined a period of art. It also described a time when..... the entire art world was about to crack open and explode its vision all across the universe. Not that its a big deal but that is a far more significant achievement than anything dribbled out of the mouths of mealy singers like the Offspring and ... so many other forgettable crappy bands.

This deliberate stand off between what was accepted and what wasn't was apparent in their sound. Even a few years ago Lou was interviewed about his latest music session on KCRW. He was making music out of a mop handle and a rubber strap -- this was his minimalist instrument. And I thought it was significant enough to mention. Lou did too.

This stuff really did define a period even if it was right or wrong. I think there was a time when early Pink Floyd did this type of "happening" entertainment as well. I liked what the VU biographer said when the street trash, junkies, pop journalists, film makers, and art critics all got together for these events. I don't expect much wisdom to tumble out of the mouths of these junkies but you have to admit that it was interesting.

THE MUSIC MISSION GETS LOST
Today we got professional Wrestling. WHATS THE DIFFERENCE? Its one mans dirt for anothers really. There are a lot of miserable routes available today in which one can entertain ones self. However, they do not have a considerable amount of street quality to them. This stuff made sense because it used a very unique sort of street sensibility.

Confrontation is what made this band interesting. It made a lot of people interesting back in the day. It made Lenny Bruce interesting. It made the Sex Pistols interesting. It made Dice interesting. It made a lot of people interesting. There was a significant amount of destruction centering around these individuals and some people connected to these pop icons died due to their own chaotic direction. I don't suggest that dying for art is a worthy or noble aspiration. But this type of thinking has racked up a very different type of life.

And it continues to fascinate.....

XTC - GENERALS AND BRANSON

XTC -LAST MINUTE TOM FOOLERY

XTC has an inner genius to make the most serious of subjects look laughable and fool hearty. The official word is that this video was created last minute after a meeting with Billionaire Richard Branson. There may be some truth to this. XTC was signed to the Virgin Records. For the most part the band had total creative control.

The go cart scene is brilliant.

VAN HALEN - 1984

"THIS WAS THE GREAT BIG VISION OF ROCK AND ROLL"

There was a time in history - however brief - when rock and roll centered around a BIG atmosphere. Unlike the Goth rock and wrist splitters that came out later Van Halen created its own uplifting outrageous environment.

This is a brief interview with David Lee Roth who lays the deal on the table. He tells the viewers what the band is really about. It is not too complicated but 19-82 - 1984 were magical years for this band. In fact, in a lot of ways they were a better ensemble. The whole carnival atmosphere that surrounded VH meant a lot of amplifiers and a wild stage show. It was thrilling.
The stripped down look that came later couldn't hold a candle to what the band had delivered previously.

Looking back on this clip really spells out a few choice details for me as a fan. I really enjoyed those years and for a while nobody could really top them. I feel the band sort of ended once DLR left on his own.

TO CATCH A PREDATOR: BUSTED !!!!!

BUSTED BUSTED BUSTED

This is better than COPS. I used to like to watch COPS...... Still do in fact. But this is far more fun to watch in fact. I think its a riot. BREAK OUT THE BEER. This is GREAT ENTERTAINMENT. I hope this show continues.....

The extra edits that someone has made on this show... went the extra mile. They actually made this show BETTER. NBC should hire this guy to do the extra EDITS.. CAUSE THIS ACTUALLY MAKES IT BETTER...

CHeck out the very end... theres a site called....
www.yourdone.org But this site comes up empty!

Still, though, its a great idea....

TO CATCH A PREDATOR: GREAT AMERICAN TELEVISION?

"Where Else Can Reality TV GO?"

This may be the final frontier. There is nowhere else for this to really go is there? This clip is actually quite tame compared to the stuff that is shown late at night. There are clips of foul mouthed Rabbi's and school teachers and just disgusting role models from "society".

My particular favorite leans towards the rabbi and the doctor. The doctor clip is pretty funny because he actually breaks his own glasses in a sea of rage.

All of these jokers land in jail eventually. Which is where they belong. We are going to need bigger jails in this country. There are so many of these morons running around the country. Its disturbing.

BEYOND CRUEL: ITS ANTI COMEDY

"LITTLE KID GETS THE BEJEEZUS SCARED OUT OF HIM"

This clip is interesting for one very small and simple reason. This child is taken by surprise and shown something very horrifying... Linda Blair from the, "Exorcist". The child is terrorized and will most likely need some sort of therapy as he grows older.

As a deep thinker I find this very cruel. I studied many forms of spirituality. Before one comes into existence they have knowledge of the sacred and the profane. This ugly apprarition goes against nature. The child can pick up on it that it is not natural. For that reason this clip is very cruel and unusual. Of course as one grows into adulthood and faces many more everyday experiences they become desensitized about the spiritual world. But to a child their world is very different in comparison. They are still tied to the innocent and loving world from which they sprang !!!.. DEEP ENOUGH FOR YA?

Maybe I am reading way too much into this. But still, why would you ever want to terrify a small defenseless child. Its funny for the first two seconds and then you feel terrible for laughing at this clip. But yes, you still feel compelled to watch it again.

I think this one comes from Germany. A country that has a long history of knowing how to treat people.... lol

This is terrible.

JOHN ROCKER - WHERE ARE YE?

"from MID OCTOBER 1999: John Rocker, We Hardly Knew Ye"

This guy kicked up a lot of dust in the late 90's and upset a lot of New Yorkers with his "Strap Hangers" comment, (aimed at subway riders). He also made some semi racist comments about different minorities and landed in controversey in the sports page. More recently his father was reported killed in a freak auto accident.

This guy entertains - no doubt. And he also comes off as somewhat normal in this interview. But nothing could beat the pictures of this guy in the New York Post with his goofy expressions at the camera looking like a right goof.

He almost encouraged hatred and egged people on with his rants. Its entertaining and a bit dangerous. This guy was living life rather loudly. You don't hear much of his antics anymore and baseball will not be the same.... that is until he opens up his big yap again.
