CARVEL ICE CREAM - COOKIEPUSS 1983
CLASSIC 1983 COMMERCIAL FOR CARVEL ICE CREAM
When Star Wars was all the rage Tom Carvel, owner of Carvel Ice Cream, had to compete for attention. His answer to intergalatic hijinx was COOKIEPUSS. This stellar ice cream wonder was somewhat baffling to figure out. What exactly was he?
He was delicious of course but other than that it was hard to define.
Tom Carvel, ever the inventor, created CUPIDPUSS. This is a terrible name for a cake. This was obviously inspired by the Star Wars influenced Cookiepuss. The total concept was a complete oxymoron. You couldn't cut a Carvel ice cream cake with a fucking light saber. This thing was hulled straight from the deepest hubs of the ice cream vaults. No kidding, it was almost near impossible to cut one of these things without letting it unthaw for about 45 minutes.
Well, after 25 years. Here he is again kids. Cupidpuss.
Enjoy

THE CHARLATANS UK - DONT WANT TO SEE THE SIGHTS
IS THIS THE VIDEO THAT KILLED METAL?
MTV took a sharp left handed turn when this band came out. The Charlatans UK signaled the end for a somewhat promising format. Shortly after the Charlatans UK came out Warrants "Cherry Pie" video vanished in thin air. The Inspiral Carpets came out with their Madchester pop sound. Then the big heavy hammer came out with Nirvana and everything changed. Pretty much forever. Soon after Cobain and Co. did their little thing on MTV the entire station swtiched over to a hip hop rap format.
This video here is interesting for a number of reasons. It isn't really that fantastic musically or visually. And Tim Burgess looks really young here... just a kid really. Yet this band was enough to get the ball rolling.
The one thing you can say about a lot of these UK bands despite their age is that they could realy articulate well. They could do that vocally, musically and lyrically. I mean REALLY WELL.
I just came out of a show in Detroit where the 40 year old singer bellowed, "Im Pissed Off Again".... and that pretty much is the ENTIRE SONG. Its just repeated about.....50 times in two and a half minutes.
So this song, and this video DOES have some merit.
