BLACK FLAG - Forget The Moral Message - This is Fantastic

THATS HOW YOU DO IT

What a great video. The skull guy in the driver seat always throws me for a loop everytime I see it. The effect that it brings to this low rent video production is nothing less than magnificent.

Style doesn't have to cost a fortune.

You do have to know how to hold the camera to capture the subject. These shots are beautifully staged. The effect is great. The way the skull is rolling around and the low camera angles of the car swerving all over the road is pure genius.

I know I am going to make enemies far abroad in law enforcement but so what. This is our art. You cops have your art... its called, "Mayberry RFD" and "The Andy Griffith Show" and like it or not, those people in those shows are too stupid to be real.

BLACK FLAG is about as real as you can get. And the other thing that saves this video is that it is shot unapologetically in black and white. The solo is terrible because thats the way Gregg Ginn intended it to be. Its a bit awful when you get honest with it. But quirky guitar crunches is what Black Flag is all about. This music has a way of growing on you.... like a fungus.

And.... because the politically correct 90's are now long behind us ... and I can speak my mind. This video inspires me to drink......
Excuse me.... I am going to go crack open a bottle of ice cold brew now.

BLACK FLAG - DRINKING AND DRIVING

THE SMITHS - ALL NIGHT AT THE PANIC DISCO

GET A LOAD OF THIS PICTURE........
MEIN GOTT HERR SON !!!

This picture is noneother than Moz in full action pose. But me thinks it also has a bit of a Gerald Scarfe quality to it, (thats the artist behind Pink Floyd The Wall) and maybe a mad touch of Ralph Steadman to boot, (the illustrator to Hunter S Thompson).

On a good day or performance of choice Moz takes on some very interesting animated movements. True to form of most Smith songs, "What Difference Does It Make?" touches upon some raw nerve endings. WELL, ITS SUPPOSED TO... BLECH....

This quick was taken from Top of the Pops, the staple Sunday night music show on the BBC. This one takes me for a bit of a loop. If I'm not mistakened, (and I very well could be) I think this one is a live version? Mayhaps? Even though its well known that bands that appear on this show lip synch. But I have heard this track numerous times on my well worn out copies of, "Hatfull of Hollow". Maybe I'm just imagining things.

Morrissey was seen as a peoples poet during this stage and an oddity. Described in the press as a warbling tortured choir boy and a man who dances like a penguin. I thought it was nothing more than a lucky miracle to see any footage of him at all in the 80's. This was before the big budget videos, (well.... you know what I mean). He had a sonic hairdoo. He looked like Buddy Holly on steroids. When I think of the Smiths I prefer this street savvy peoples poet version of the band. I was forever crawling through his lyrics, trying to figure out the subtleties, there are many levels to these songs.

The later version of Morrissey takes a little more getting used to. I never expected him to grab such a mass world wide appeal. I suspected that this had already happend with the final Smith album but I was way off. He only got bigger as his solo efforts increased.

This clip captures a more dangerous time. Its authenticity lies within the kids who groove on these sounds. Back then there was no alternative music on the radio. Getting near this sound or near the kids took actual work. You had to get into the clubs and meet them in person, and there was no internet.
It was quite marvelous really.

THE SMITHS - WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE?

JET SCREAMER - 1962 - BABY BABY BABY !!!

"BABY BABY BABY !!!"

Truly one of the greats of ROCK AND ROLL.

Yes, I know he's a cartoon...... relax.... I haven't lost all sense of reality, well not yet anyways.

But Jet Screamer ROCKS. This classic clip came from the Jetsons back in the year of 1962. Its great stuff. The guitar solo is actually pretty good as it is... pre-Beatles. It sounds like something George Harrison would come up with. This cartoon encapsulates the time that it came out but it is also a little ahead of its time.

In short, its a brilliant little romp.

THE BOSTON TYPEWRITER ORCHESTRA

HELP ME MY GOD

My IQ just fell 50 points for having watched this. I saw a clip of these guys on the Today Show and I am dumber for having seen it. This is absurd.

Its fun for about 3 seconds.

But these guys made an ALBUM OUT OF THIS. I am not making this up. There are seven.. hahha.. YES.. .SEVEN TRACKS.. on this release... no pun intended. I DARE YOU TO FIND A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ANY OF THEM. I had no idea there was even a market for this.
What is this?

They got a store.... an online store. What the hell ?? They got a t-shirt that reads, "They're Just My Type". Good grief. Now I can understand this being funny for the young 20 somethings in the band like.... Derrick Albertelli ... but whats going through the 50 something guys head? Even if they are getting national exposure on the talk show circuit I gotta wonder if they think about people who made REAL CONTRIBUTIONS to this world while playing live.... like, Oh I don't know... maybe people like Ghandi or Picasso.

Here are some other ideas for "found music". Why not punch holes in the paper tubes of old toilet paper rolls and paper towel rolls and create homeade flutes.....and call yourselfs.. the Blowhards?

Oh no wait, heres a better idea. Why not jingle your keys in synch to popular hip hop songs and call yourselves. The Jingles.

Why not create musical instruments out of cell phones..... or designer glasswear cases. You can open and close them really fast in front of a microphone. Wait... you know what? That idea is just sounding too damn good.

I am running the risk of inspiring some future knucklehead out there.
